Wow, it's been a while.... which seems to be a recurring theme with all my posts, but meh, maybe at some point I'll start posting regularily. I'm posting now aren't I? That's as a good a place to start as any.

Lots has happened, I turned 19 a few weeks back and the alcohol consumption kicked up a few notches, it's just SO easy now haha, just gotta avoid the beer gut, which means I'll have to go to hard liquor for a little while....

We went to Roxxanne's, a local strip joint in Waterloo, for Dave's birthday, apparently some of the girls (well one of them actually) felt that he needed to be embarrassed, so Chris Best, Peter and I were more than happy to tag along. I have to say, there's just something not quite right about a girl stripping to Yellow by Coldplay... on the other hand... yes I looked at the stars and my, my how they shined for me. hahaha

I have about a week of lectures before exams which I think is WAY too close. Has this summer passed by as quickly for all of you guys as well?

I got my Mechatronics Engineering T-shirt a few days ago it has "HUGE WONGS" on the back, so I'm suitably pleased, now everyone will know how huge they are!! haha

hrmm, it was good to write this stuff down, maybe I WILL start posting regularily...

Later

haha, had quite a good weekend, good enough to write down at least.
On friday I ventured out to Diana's house and ate her cookies, which were only okay because the shapes weren't quite right, hahaha, especially lumpy the elephant who definitely deserved to be eaten. Then we went all the way back downtown to Jeff's res (which was terribly inefficient from my standpoint having travelled back and forth) where we did the standard hang out thing, though I ended up playing NFS: Most Wanted.
Diana crashed at my place and we went to future bakery for lunch. I ate perogies and thus was in high spirits, so Amgad bought beer for Brant's b-day! I drank five that night, was too drunk to play Halo well and had a grand old time only to learn that night that I'd forgetten I needed to get to the cemetary the next morning for the chinese visitation deal that happens around now. Not so cool, but I made it and had a great buffet after, so all ended well.

I'll finish off with some of my most charming quotes from this weekend.

Matt: "Diana, if you had to describe Steven's penis using one of these Easter Bunny names which one would it be?" (Names were: Mr. Solid, Mr. Nutty, Mr. Munchy, Mr. Fruit and Nuts, as well as the Mr. Solid Jr. etc. line of bunnies, hahahah)

someone: "Matt, are you drunk?"
Matt: "No, not really, ... well, not so much..... yes"

Matt: "You know Jess, around now is when I like to tune you out"
Jess: "That's SO mean!!"
Matt: "What?"

Drunken girl to Brock: "Wow, it's SOO good you're such a good kid, with all these guys around you drinking, I mean I like smoked my first joint when I was in grade six."
Matt to Brant: "My god Brant, where do you find these girls!?"

Matt: "Yo guys, yo guys! What do you call pornography that features police officers?"
Matt: "Poe-nography"
Amgad: "Did you just think that up now?"
Matt: "YEP!"

Thanks to all of you who made it out yesterday, I had a blast and I'm quite glad all you different people were able to mesh with each other, had I done this another day I may have even been able to bring in a THIRD group of my friends too, how crazy would that have been!? or maybe even a fourth if I had some res people come down, now that would be insane and just a bit cramped. At least Dave's rave would be a little more successful in that scenario....

Anyway, hope you all had a good time and that you'll forgive me if I wasn't able to spend much time conversing with you in my drunken and busy state, not to mention after I lost my voice when Sayaka snuck me a peanut, that bitch... or as JP called her.... MURDERER, though that was more for her menstration rather than anything else hahahahah

I'll try to do this again soon, since I was extremely pleased that there was little to nothing to clean up, good job team!! In fact, a bunch of you left alcohol so bonus for me!!

see ya soon

BSS [Jan. 22nd, 2006|09:35 am]
My god.... Broken Social Scene was just TOO fantastic to possibly describe in words, and especially in writing (since essentially, you'd have to observe me doing a nude interpretive dance to basically understand how utterly mesmerizing and spellbinding that show was)

We all walked out basically wondering what the hell we were going to do with the rest of our lives, having been so fulfilled by what we had just witnessed. In fact, I DEFINITELY remember entertaining thoughts during the show that if somehow the blaring guitars and horns were to cause such damage to my ears that I would go permananently deaf, I wouldn't actually mind all that much. Suffice to say I can't think of anything more to say...

Logistically speaking, I met up with my friends at 4:30 at Royal York and headed down from there, arriving at 5:30. Yes, doors were at 8:00 and yes, the show was at 9:30, my friends' rationale... they wanted to be in the front, and my was it worth it. We weren't quite there, but it was close enough and unfortunately we were off to the side enough that we missed out on participating when Kevin Drew and Leslie Feist went crowd surfing. Show lasted until 1:00 when we all staggered home.

I could probably go on with more but I need to go off and pick up a couch so I'll see all you later

p.s. coop is going well, President's Birthday == Free Food and Open Bar :)

phew! I'm back in Toronto!..... again....
So I finished up exams quite nicely and neatly on the 16th, did the VERY depressing leaving residence business, which included lots of hugs and promises of coming back to visit when I'm on co-op next term. Then it was back to Toronto to unwind for like an hour before going out to buy work clothes, eating that steak I was craving ALL term and finally the Wongs Christmas party on Sunday! The party went well, the improv group we hired for the show was quite good and all went pretty smoothly, though I think I inadvertantly volunteered to be Santa next year.... uh oh.

After that long and tiring day it was off to Vancouver the next morning! Good bye smelly cold Toronto, hello 10 degrees Vancouver. Lovely and warm though a tad bit rainy, I really didn't mind. However, what started as a snowboarding trip, due to rain ended up to be an eating trip. Once again, I didn't mind terribly.

Had indian food, vegetarian buddhist food, french food, chinese food and japanese food, so definitely a good variety.

We went up to Whistler on Wednesday and had a surprisingly good time. It was raining till approximately 1900m at the snowline so as long as we stayed above, it was excellent. A little heavy, but still lots of snow. Only issue of course was the bottom of the lift we were sticking to was below the line so we got wet, rode back up into the snow and snowboarded back down into the rain, it was pretty bizarre but still excellent. To make it even more excellent my dad and I went to one of the restaurants on the slope where I had Lamb shank which was just ridiculously tasty.

Tons more to say, but much that I can probably relate better in person, so that's all on Vancouver.

So what on the table now? Second Christmas tomorrow followed by hanging out and then moving into my new place at Broadview and The Danforth on the 27th, I start work on the 3rd, so I really don't have too much time.

Other things on the horizon, JPs show on the 13th I believe as well as BSS on the 21st! any of you guys going?

For those of you who don't believe in fate or at least freak coincidences here's a story.

Co-op applications: I apply for a job on Front St. Downtown, Toronto. I realise after applying that this job is looking for second year students, so I figure I'm just going to get screened. The job is open to System Design Eng, Chemical Eng, Enviro Eng, Mech Eng and Mechatronics Eng so quite a lot of people.
Out of 210 applicants 6 are chosen for interviews to fill 2 openings. I am one and my buddy down the hall from me is another.
We go to the interview one after another, a week later both of us have been hired.

What does this mean? we're living together at my grandparent's currently available apartment on Broadview and The Danforth, right accross from the station. This is going to be SO awesome. Can you say... Party House?

well then, it's been quite a while. Mostly because things haven't been too interesting. I'm having a blast, really enjoying myself etc. but that's nothing new so I haven't been posting!

I went home on the weekend to catch up with my family, everything seems to be going well, though my sister got in a bit of trouble last week. So I did my brotherly duty and talked to my mom about the double standard and unfairness in which I get treated with more freedom because I'm a guy and because I decided to go away for university, hopefully mom and dad will think on it a bit before they go on another lecture rampage with her haha.

In other news, a deck is being built in my backyard in Mississauga, my Dad is going to be doing a winter triathlon in Ottawa (cross country skiing, skating and running) my last exam is on the 16th of December and my Dad is pushing for me to get my coop placement ASAP so he can figure out when we can go on a snowboarding trip. haha

Also, formal this weekend and I'm coming home again on the weekend of the 26th. As this last weekend was allocated towards family, this one is allocated to friends, so clear your calendars I'm coming home bitches.
I'll try to post things more regularily, more for the sake of my memory than anything else really.

A few quick updates and recaps...

During my freehand sketching class they stopped to show us an "inspirational video on freehand sketching," it was Trogdor.

Russian girl at res was wearing a CCCP shirt, hehe

Commencement was lots of fun, $150 and a very nice speech about yours truly, it was an excellent surprise.

I broke my G-string AGAIN. fuck... replacing it any short amount of time is going to be a bitch. This was a coated one too, they should be better than that.

Lessons learned this weekend: I say a lot of things when I'm drunk, sometimes insightful, sometimes random, usually coherent, ALWAYS hilarious.

It was good seeing all you guys again, this weekend was fantastic, we'll do it again come Christmas :D

p.s. apparently my sister purchased a four-person bong, it is yet to be named.

Hey all, life's been great. Classes are well... classes, brutally tiring at times but that's what I got myself into when I enrolled as an Engineer at Waterloo. I've had a surprising amount of motivation this week which has left me with little in the way of HW to do this weekend. I think it certainly helps that when I leave my room for a 5 minute break I can always find someone to hang with or laugh with just long enough to regain some semblance of sanity before I get back into it. Combined with the refreshing calls of "I lose!" that ring down the hall. I spent so much more time winning that game before I came here (btw, you all just lost.) By here I mean Waterloo, though technically I'm in Mississauga right now, set to return to the K-W in about half an hour, my dad just stepped out for a run because he was feeling stiff.

So yeah, I came back to T.O. for the weekend, checked out JP's show which was awesome. JP ripped out the most intense and fantastic solo I've ever seen him do. To the point that the band started laughing at him and urging him to finish up. Also I picked up my new guitar!! I can't describe how nice it is, so I won't even bother. I'll post a picture later today when I get back to my own computer.

So that's all for now, been having a great time so far, work doesn't bother me even though I am working constantly, maybe the novelty of being here hasn't worn off yet. Talk to me in a week or two hehehe. Tomorrow the floor is headed off to Mongolian Grill to eat and vote on our floor name. Current front runner's include: (btw, our don's name is Len)

Len's Crafters
The Episode of Who's the Boss when Tony sees Angela naked in the Shower
A Few GoodLen
The Episode of Family Guy which makes reference to The Episode of Who's the Boss when Tony sees Angela naked in the Shower.
and some other one's that I can't think of right now

See ya guys, hope you're having fun

Did my engineering frosh yesterday, holy shit I'm so tired. Lots of physical stuff, but I did get my hard hat and all, so I suppose it was quasi-worth it. Junkyard wars this morning! That's gonna be so much fun! But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Played soccer last night which was tons of fun, holy shit all the guy's here are machines. I get deked SOO hardcore, we're talking like spins and shit too. We had a bit of a fair so there was cotton candy, a mechanical bull and some other stuff. Lots of fun! Andy Stochansky was playing down the road, but it wasn't my thing so I didn't pursue it. After all that I had a good nonsense driven conversation with a bunch of girls and some upper year guy; had a great time, though I had to defend myself when I said the Beatles' music lacked passion. haha, that was another of my arguing for the sake of arguing moments.

Anyway, having a blast, my quads are BURNING

Buh Bye,

Frosh Part Deux [Sep. 6th, 2005|12:54 am]
Did the standard tour, aclimatization stuff that's pretty standard and redundant; akin to my use of the word standard in this sentence. Then went cosmic bowling with all the frosh at SJU. They played Sweet Home Alabama a few times while we were there, so we all hopped up and started doing our dance. It reminded me of that scene in Grease 2, except without the references to scoring.

Once I got back, me and a few guys on my floor decided to go for a jog. It was around 9:30pm so it was peaceful; did maybe 3-5km, so pretty quick and short. We'll be making it a regular nightly thing, this'll help me avoid any kind of weight gain most likely.

Just got back from the girls' lounge where they're watching the Notebook, I stayed for a little while until I got tired and decided to come back and crash. Gotta get up bright and early tomorrow.

Later all,

Frosh Day UNO!

Learned our frosh dance; not to give anything away, but lets say if Sweet Home Alabama goes on I am required to dance. Also square danced for quite a few hours. Good ice breaker and suppose calorie burner.

Roommate and I are supposed to dress up tomorrow for brunch, in some creative manner. Too bad I don't have my vest with me.

Having a Blast

Forty minutes to go and I will most likely never return to government service. What did I get out of this? Hard to say, but I suppose I could start with a reference letter from the Minister of Finance if I need it, valuable office experiance to put on my resume, $4000 ish and someone just gave me a book entitled "Kicking Ass in Canadian Politics" so all in all worthwhile.

In other news I REALLY can't wait for my new guitar, it now has a pickup in it which will mean more to some of you than to others. And my large source of sadness is rooted in my realisation that I won't have it for frosh week, oh well I just gotta stick it out with my old one then.

Speaking of frosh, University is right around the corner and for the most part I've tried to keep this journal bereft of any such ruminations. Just never figured that heavily in my mind I suppose. But suffice to say I'm thoroughly excited at the prospect and having lived essentially on my own this summer I don't think the transition will be at all challenging. Though having to wade through the asian masses will probably reflect harshly on my verbal skills and diction though there will be a boost in my CS skills, math and science as well as computer hacking, if the stereotypes are to be believed which is of course the trendy thing to do right now ;)

But alas, is there sorrow? depression? anxiety at the prospect of never seeing many of you ever again? Nope, not at all hahaha. I've always been honest, to the point of being brutally so, and I see no point in bucking the trend now. I am for the most part bored with the majority of the people I know. The sheer length of our association is cause enough. Gone is the spark, the excitement at seeing many of my older friends, which tells me that it's time to move on. When you know and are comfortable with any person for a considerable length of time you begin to take relationships for granted. You fail to see the value and the importance of such people in your lives and I'm pretty sure I need to step away for a little while and you know, refresh my perspective on the people around me. I figure at that point one of two things will happen.
A. Having fully realised the extent to which I am attached to certain people efforts will be made all the more strongly to maintain ties and keep in touch.
OR
B. Having realised how bloody tiresome and aggravating certain people are I shall forget them and condemn them to a fiery pit of burning wrath, sending to their home a dominatrix clown (see ouchytheclown.com) to provide them with a truly harrowing experiance, or something along those lines.

and at the time of me finishing this post there are 19 minutes left in my glorious work term

Anyone feeling the itch? and no it's not the rash I picked up a few nights ago. I've got the party problems, the shindig sickness, the box social blues, not to mention a tendancy for annoying alliteration. So what's the cure, well I already tried pornography and vitamin C, that didn't go too well. "Ouch that stung." So I think I should try something a little different, a little radical, a little dare I say it risque. Actually not at all since you guys shot down my topless party idea (bitches). So instead, I'm opening my apartment as an offering for any large group of you that wishes to come down upon it. Now I have a party to go to already on Saturday, which actually conflicts with a more different party, but meh, that's how things roll. So you guys are welcome to come by on Friday, technically anytime Saturday before 7:30pm, or more or less anytime next week (since I finish work this week). Let me know your interest.

Matt

p.s. I'm headed to the Ukrainian Festival on Sunday to see a friend of mine dance. It's at bloor west village and any of you are more than welcome to join me.

Updating from work as yet again I have nothing to do! Real long one coming, just a warning.
Let's see, my Aunt got married on Saturday and I don't know whether it was the fact that I'm older and wiser now or because I actually knew the person getting married, but the ceremony was actually quite enjoyable.
My dad and I were on Camera duty, essentially capturing the candid moments that the official photographers would not be getting. Him with his Digital SLR and a 1 gig card and me with his cast off Fuji (still a nice camera) and a 256 mb card we conspired to take approximately 1000 pictures that day. I had to change my batteries halfway through, while his held up all day. We both filled up our memory cards and at one point had to rely on a 30mb "back-up" card I was carrying in my pocket for a few more pictures that my dad wanted to take. And this was all BEFORE the reception. In fact we had to download everything in preparation for that.
We took some pictures in amusing locales as well. Beyond the standard church shots, the wedding party travelled to a beautiful park to take more pictures. They also ventured to University and Queen to take pictures, including one set where the whole party would cross University Ave. Hahah, at one point they were all sticking out their thumbs as hitchhikers and a giant greyhound bus stopped for them haha. But yeah, it was a fun atmosphere with all the passing cars honking etc.
Reception was a classy affair. Having downloaded all the days pictures to my dad's laptop we were able to setup a projector (that he "borrowed" from work) and we had a slide show going through part of the reception.
Dinner was okay, dancing was hilarious. My dad has tons of energy and I like to think he graduated from the "Aerobics School of Dance" so suffice to say the results were amusing to no end and moderately embarassing. I took some short video clips using our small Digital Elph too! One would think that a 1 gig memory card would be enough and one would also think that 3 cameras is overkill. Suffice to say we managed to find a need for all of that.
So yes we danced (myself included) till roughly 1:00 in the morning (we were staying over at the hotel anyway) at which point I did a manual slideshow for whoever was left. We only managed to get through half the pictures before it was decided we needed to pack up. But that wasn't the end for my parents hahaa. I was exhausted and went to bed but they went to another room for a bit of a post reception deal, which didn't last too long for them, but kept going for others. I heard rumours of a 4:00am pizza run.
And after a brunch the next day I came home!
Day wasn't over though.....
Went over to JPs and met Cameron there, we got caught up with what we've been doing, my guitar, Cameron's job and JP's spotting of the "Euro-trash family" when he was in line for the Eiffel Tower. Cameron and I had more Habinero peppers (sp?) HOT! and we stumbled accross a movie called "Boa vs Python" at Blockbuster which we promptly purchased and watched. Okay, this movie makes Torque look like Citizen Kane. We need to watch this movie, ALL of you. It had the three of us breaking down in tears of laughter at one point. And with more discussions of the super bass and super treble clefs as well as a nap on my part, my weekend was nicely rounded out.

Sorry for the length, a lot happened.

Well then, I'm sitting at work a little bored and I've taken to reading Sherlock Holmes. It truly is a wonderous thing we've done to present day English isn't it? How far we've perverted common phrasings so as to make the following passage completely ridiculous and hilarious.

“TO THE RED-HEADED LEAGUE: On account of the bequest of the late Ezekiah Hopkins, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, U. S. A., there is now another vacancy open which entitles a member of the League to a salary of £4 a week for purely nominal services. All red-headed men who are sound in body and mind and above the age of twenty-one years, are eligible. Apply in person on Monday, at eleven o’clock, to Duncan Ross, at the offices of the League, 7 Pope’s Court, Fleet Street.”

“What on earth does this mean?” I ejaculated after I had twice read over the extraordinary announcement.

Why Watson I had no idea! ;)
